Conferences & Workshops
The Covid-19 pandemic slowed direct land dialogues (and influenced modes of engagements). This led to increasing concern on the path to achieving the land sector development agendas at local and global levels. HSF and NUST partnership led to the introduction of a new forum for land actors from all over the world to engage in various aspects of the land discourse and practice in a friendly and enriching forum, to continue the effort at diagnosing the problems and proffering solution for improving the living conditions of societies (and their people) around the world. This led to the International Land Governance and Societal Development Conference from 8-10 December 2021. The format for this conference was entirely virtual and the highlights include book launching, initiation of Special journal Issue on the subject of the conference, and the keynote speeches from three Presidents of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG).
The 2nd Land Governance and Societal Development Conference happened from 13-15 December 2022. It served as a follow-up conference emanating from a previous one hosted in 8-10 December 2021. This conference has been necessary as NUST and HSF continue to find innovative ways to grow and promote knowledge on land governance in ways that would benefit societies worldwide. The 2nd conference is different from the 1st in two main ways. First, it was a hybrid conference. It involved face-to-face assembly of participants in Windhoek Namibia, and online participants from around the world. Second, it involved non-parallel sessions. This allowed all participants to be part of every session conducted in the conference.
A workshop was organised as a side event at the venue of the FIG Congress in Warsaw, Poland, on the 15th of September 2022. The workshop theme focused on urban-rural land governance, with a focus on the Chinese experience.
A workshop was organised as Special session at the FIG Working Week held 28 May – 1 June 2023, in Orlando, Florida, USA. The session was entitled “Spatial Revitalisation Through Urban-Rural Land Linkages: Principles and Practices.” This special session identified and highlighted ideas necessary for grasping spatial development problems from an urban-rural land linkages perspective.
